Eric Ball RULEZ for this game. This is one of the most unique games I've seen in years on Atari 2600. While doom it's not, it is a genuine First person shooter.
The concept is simple. You walk around, shooting skeletons, and try to keep away from them at the same time. The game play is simple, but the challenge is up there, even with a marker to tell which direction the skeleton is from you.
Some things that help the game (or hurt it some people claim)
You can turn left/right, and move forward, but you cannot move backwards. If you need to go back for fear of being touched, you gotta turn around and runn like a chicken. And hope luck is on your side if your cornered.
Your gun isn't a one shot instant kill either, sometimes it'll take two or three shots, and maybe more. But considering these guys are already dead, what are you going to do?
And it's all pulled off in a First person passage, with no flickering at all. (hey, pulling off first person by itself, or a fliker free game by itself is hard enough on Atari 2600)
The graphics are simple. A pixelated vector like corridore, which adequetly shows the coridor a few steps ahead, as well as clearly showing you where you can turn. And the skeletons are shown from four sides at four different scales. You can even opt to have a marker placed on the screen to hint which direction you need to go to get to the skeleton (or run from them
)
Over all this is a really impressive game on the 2600, and I'm looking forward to more.
I'd rate this game a 10 out of 10
Sure, some stuff could probably be done better, but this one is the first.
I'm going to be waiting for a Skeleton 2, and playing Skeleton till it comes out. It'll be a fun and unique game for years to come.
