Well, I got this awhile ago, and apparently forgot to post about it. Oh well, here goes.
This is the second in the Iron soldier series for Atari Jaguar. It's Atari's version of Mech Warior. It's also one of the better games on the system. Basically, you and your team have this big robot. You got to drive it around and bust up the badguys places and steal their stuff. Aw heck, pick on the ignorant bystandards also, it's fun
Er, anyhow. this game is like the first one in many ways. but it has some stuff to make it better.
The graphics are much improved from the first one. Now the simple polygon shapes have some textures on them. It's huge pixelated textures on large objects, but it looks lots better still. Also, enemys and small objects have textures on them. Instead of simple polygons, the tanks, choppers and enemy mechs now have destinctive paint schemes. Also improved is that the vanishing point isn't as close as it was in the first one. And the Buildings don't have details "pop on" them as you get closer...as bad as on 1 anyways.
Sound is simular to the first one. It has it's great soundtrack in the game still. Also, the sound supports surround sound systems. so if your TV or sound system is surround, you can hear stuff comeing from behind you. If not, it still has better sterio sound than the original
This has four new weapons from thefirst game (12 instead of
. It's got a little more variety. It also has 4 extra levels (20 instead of the originals 16) New this time around, you can now save after every level. That's a relief if your straped for time, or just haveing a hard time getting through.
This game does have it's downside though, Cost. The original IS you could get for $40 new, and on ebay for possibly as low as $10. If you get the CD version of the game, it's not verry much, but it requires an adon you'll shell out $100 for new, or $60 low end used. And if you prefer carts like me, you can get that instead. But you won't find it on ebay, and it'll cost you $80 only at Telegames.
How's it rate?
Graphics 9 much improved over the first one. Not great by today's standards, but nice for Jaguar
Sound 10 Much better than the first. Surround sound is a must if you have it.
Controll 9 takes a little getting used to, but if you played 1, you'll fit right in.
Replay Value 10 Lots of fun.
Over All 9.5 It's loads of fun the first time, and will just beg you to cme back for more.
Final Thoughts This is a great game, it's much improved over the first one. Unfortunately, comeing at the end of the Jaguar's lifespan has taken it's toll on the game, as far as price goes anyways. As I said, it's a great game, but it'll cost you. If you have the cash for it, I'd say it's a great buy, if not, look to getting the first one. It's still great.
